I am trying to find a way to create a page for my site that will display all my post titles in alphabetical order. Sounds simple, right? Seems like there should be a plugin for that — and there are, several of them. But here’s the thing. My Dashboard in WordPress doesn’t include the plugin tab. Why? I can’t imagine.
Has anyone else out there experienced this kind of problem? Does anyone know how to get the WordPress Plugins tab to show its lovely face?
I know where the tab should be.
I know how to change the “screen options” in the upper right corner — that doesn’t give me a plugin tab option either.
I know where to find the tools and settings tabs — no dice there either.
Do I have to give up, and fail to give my readership what they are clearly asking for, a page with an alphabetized listing of all my posts? Do I have to create such a page by hand?
What gives?

You ask a lot of good questions, but I have one better… what’s a plugin, again? Is that like a widget?
As for WordPress sucking, I think it’s pretty good. I’ve used Blogspot and Tumblr too, but WP is the best. Good luck!

I am going to post a retraction of my wordpress sucks rant. It was written out of frustration. I’ve been trying to implement the idea from my Lamb-basting which suggested that I have an index to each review for it reader which is an A+ idea and have been trying to do it for a week. As you can imagine, I was at the end of my rope last night and just had to vent. I am not too sure what a plugin is either but I think Silver may be able to bail me out of this one again.

You have a hosted WordPress.com blog and therefore cannot use plugins. On these, WordPress serves the software and provides a limited amount of built-in plugins.
Only self-hosted blogs with the WordPress.org software installed have the ability to install plugins. So unless you wanna do that and pay for hosting, you’re outta luck.

Silver, as usual you are a fountain of information, I am going to post a retraction on wordpress sucking as the post was written in haste and frustration. It has been good to me so far, its just that someone from the LAMB website you turned me on to suggested that I have an index of movies I reviewed so they could go to the review directly. I thought it was a great idea and for the past week have been trying to get wordpress to do this–even going so far as to seek help directly from wordpress which I think actually confused me more. I think you have talked me into a self-hosted site is it expensive? Thank again.

While having a review index would be cool, I don’t think it’s worth transitioning to a self-hosted blog for. When I made the switch about a year ago, I added a review index and no one used it!
Unless you’re really into being a webmaster, I don’t recommend self-hosted. It’s a lot more work than the WordPress-hosted blog. For instance, when you install WordPress to your server, it’s not the same version that you’re running now, as the self-hosted version has less features initially, but more potential features due to plugins. But you have to hunt down plugins just to make your site function in the same basic ways it was already functioning. You’ll have to pick a new theme too, as the selection isn’t the same. It’s not too expensive, but the low end is probably about around $100 a year with web hosting and a domain name.

OK I signed up for a month of self hosting and paid wordpress the $25.00 to get the domain forwarded/transferred but after reading what you just said, I think I’ll stick with the conventional wordpress program.
