This movie has every indicator of crap: the bad acting starting from the beginning in a prison yard, it has the cliché good intentioned prison cellmate who is in on a double cross and that is just the beginning. The best cliché of all is that it is about—you guessed it—a casino heist.
Reindeer Games is a pitiful mess of a feature, guaranteed to be one of the finest examples of a bad “B” movie ever made. As we know, in today’s film world so seldom are action/chase movies invested with any sort of novelty or wit that it is sad to visualize some people actually enjoying this film. I can’t believe John Frankenheimer lent his name to this abortion. After he did some solid work on Ronin and Path to War, this John Frankenheimer thriller could have been promising, but it is every bit as bad as his Island of Dr. Moreau. Crude, unnatural camera angles. Awkward performances from all involved and a sloppy repetitive plot that abuses its audience in the most discourteous way.
Why does Chelize Theron take her clothes off twice in this movie? Simple so people would go to see it. The entire plot consists of a juvenile mistaken identity gag, played over and over as some pissed off teamster routinely holds a gun to Affleck’s head and threatens to kill him then changing his Bi-polar mind and agreeing to let him live again. The entire movie is one big mess penned by Ehren Kreuger, the writer of the Brothers Grim and Scream 3—real deep, moving movies who is on his way to becoming Hollywood’s premier architect of plot holes and leaky scripts.
I would expect this bland crap from Affleck but the biggest letdown is Frankenheimer, who should have known better than to take on this pathetic project.

Yeah I saw this one when it came out because of Frankenheimer’s name being attached to it, but man is it bad! The problem here is that it’s a big studio picture and those B-Movies always take themselves way too seriously.
The high point of this for me as a teen was by far Charlize Theron in her various states of undress, but even that is not nearly enough to elevate the rest of the movie.

Dudes! Any movie that inspires Ms. Theron to disrobe is just fine by me! If only the movie had been worse, that is the tragedy…then maybe she would have taken off her clothes a few more times? Let us all bow our heads for a moment of silence, in honor of bad movies. May Hollywood make many more, and may they be such terrible movies that actresses such as Charlize feel moved, in their hearts of hearts, to do whatever is necessary for the good of the film…for the good of theater…for the show MUST GO ON!!! Let us take one further moment in earnest, silent, noble appreciation of Ms. Theron, for her true and sincere dedication to her art, a dedication that few actresses share. Let us pray that her example is an inspiration to many bodacious young starlets, but to few, very few, perhaps even as few as zero, male costars, for the aforementioned male costars are destined to remain clothed, very well clothed, and to express their dedication in other ways, such as by filming gruesome and gory action scenes, multiple car pileups, and other sacrifices made, as I say, for the sake of theater. THE SHOW MUST GO ON!! No matter how appalling, horrendous, ghastly, awful, or abominable. And we, the dedicated, the few, the proud, the viewers and aficionados of the American cinema, must watch, pain us though it may. It is not an easy task that we viewers and reviewers take on for ourselves, but we are nothing if not bold, brave, yes, I must say that we are even reckless in the pursuit of artistic excellence. We offer this prayer in the name of movies, actresses, and action of every kind…
Okay, now that we have taken a moment to appreciate Charlize in all her glory, yeah, I have to admit, this film sucked eggs.

I watched this movie in a small Kentucky town, visiting for a job interview. The audience loved this movie— one of the reason I turned down the job offer. No kidding.
